What Intrigues You?
The most frequent question I get asked is how I was able to turn Tarot into my full-time job. The answer is: It wasn’t easy, and it is my purpose, and therefore is a gift which has been within me and part of my soul's plan. With that said, if you have a gift and you want to share it with the World, then by all means, work for it and make it happen. Often we do not know how to do this, or we are scared of what others might think when we come out with our unique talents. Even if you are already established, you will still come across this issue all throughout your career. You have to want this, and you have to love it. The Healing Arts are, arts. This is our creative truth, and our service to the World. You cannot go into this thinking only of the paycheck – this is a career in which the ego has to take a backseat, and being backed with a material motive will bring forth creative blocks and inauthenticity. The most successful artists of our time were not concerned with fame or fortune - they only wanted to create. I see it all the time, as the “new age” community has become rather mainstream. This isn’t so much of a bad thing, as these healing and spiritual modalities which were once considered taboo, are now being appreciated at a mass scale for the gifts these ancient arts bring. However, there are some who would much rather make a quick buck, than truly help their clients. Often, they have no idea what the hell they are doing, and will recite meanings from their tarot book, or even worse, charge by the minute and try to keep you on the phone for as long as possible, allowing you to vent your problems, only to feel better for the sake of release vs being actually spiritually guided and reconnected with your Higher Self. These scams, or inauthentic healers who haven’t taken the time to fully understand their craft end up making a bad name for the spiritual community, and further drive away those whom are already skeptic and are looking for reasons to discredit these modalities. With that said, you have to be in this ‘business’ for the sake of truly wanting to heal humanity. Now… how do you get yourself out there and build a clientele? Find a Platform to Offer Your ServicesThere are many great platforms online in which psychic readers are using to host their services. You have Storenvy, Etsy, BigCartel, Shopify, etc, that offer easy-to-use templates in creating a listing, as well as help you in building traffic and cultivating honest reviews. While these are great places to start out with, sometimes people like to get to know their reader. Also, Etsy has recently changed a lot of their guidelines and do not offer Reiki services to be listed any longer, as well as Live Readings done via phone or skype – it has to be a physical service. I had started out with my own website and eventually migrated over to Etsy, only to feel discouraged when they had deleted my live readings listings. Having too many platforms can be stressful and cause for confusion for some clients. While the traffic was amazing, I didn’t like how I wasn’t able to personalize my space so my clients could feel I was authentic in what I was offering, vs being another hand in the pot of thousands of readers to choose from with the same platform. Many hosting websites have easy-to-use editors and pre-made themes which are both catchy and organized. So you don’t have to be a pro in HTML, Photoshop, or have to spend thousands on a website designer to get yourself out there with a presentable website. Speak Your Truth – Marketing & Building A Clientele“I’ve been posting about my services and using every hashtag in the book, but am still finding it rather slow in building a clientele.” There are multiple social media platforms to use in advertising and building a clientele, but I am often approached by others who find it difficult, and haven’t had the break they were looking for when they had started. This discourages them and often pushes them away from realizing their true potential because they aren’t seeing a turn around. Not to mention, with many social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, you have to pay for promoting your advertisements as it seems due to the chronological order they adopted, sometimes business posts aren't in someone's newsfeed without it being paid for, There are ways of going about that, though! They say with anything you want to achieve, to look at the one who’s on top and understand what they did to get there. Don’t copy them, learn from them. The majority of popular healers out there whom have made it big, have shared their personal story on how their gifts helped them, and how it can help others. People are drawn to truth, authenticity, and genuineness. Are the things, such as photos and captions you’re posting the same as everyone else’s? Are they poorly made, edited, or are you only reposting what’s already been regurgitated because the original did so well? No one likes to see the same information over, and over again. We can tell the same story through different perspectives, which makes it interesting and draws a crowd. You have to critique yourself in the sense of understanding what people want, but also being authentic to your truth. This is another reason why I prefer websites over online markets – you can add blog posts and more content into who you are, and what you offer. Pricing – Honor Your CraftMany who first come out and start offering their gift, are shy when it comes to what they will charge. I have seen so many intuitives who were amazing at what they do, charge pennies for a service that I had felt was worth so much more – and I will tell them this, too! But you’re a lightworker, and this is a gift, so shouldn’t it be free? Would you go to work for free, even though it was doing something you enjoy and love? No, you simply can’t because you wouldn’t survive in this society where money is needed for such things as FOOD. Many of us who had first started, would offer free readings for the sake of exposure. However, there comes a time where you will drain yourself dry if you continually offer your gift for free. I understand some enjoy doing it for free, but if you happen to be in high demand, then it can get rather taxing. An intuitive does not have an easy job. It takes time to connect with a client and to channel information, and then it takes time to ground after the reading. If you constantly give of yourself without anything to show for your effort, then the energetic exchange you are doing is going to be rather draining. Yes, feedback is amazing, and to know you have impacted someone in a positive way is rewarding on it’s own, but just as you feel valued for being paid well for the work you do in the corporate world, the same applies to your job in the metaphysical. I have read articles stating to look at what others are charging, and while that is a good idea, you have to understand what service they offering as well. Also, don’t overwork yourself and offer a large reading for a cheaper price in order to remain competitive. Consider how long a reading takes you, some may take a half hour, some a full hour, and others may take even longer. Could you survive this day and age making $5 an hour? Plus, some people will not take you seriously if your readings are ridiculously cheaper than others, they will question if you are trying to make sales, or are you authentic in your craft and serious about your work. Confidence in your craft will bring more clients than constant sales and cheap prices will. Also, the prices you charge will attract a different array of clients. Those who are serious about receiving guidance, and who appreciate your gift, will pay your worth with no issues at all. Those who are looking for ‘fortune tellers’ or are just in it for fun will not want to spend much. Of course, there are those who truly do need guidance, but cannot afford it – and so offering small and larger services will suit everyone. For those who are nervous about charging, I always tell them to offer smaller services at first, and over time they will eventually move onto bigger ones. Once you feel valued for the service you offer, in receiving that sense of appreciation from your clients, it will be easier to grow. Reading StylesWhat type of readings will you offer? Everyone wants to know about love – however, how educated are you on that subject? Yes, we can channel guidance for our clients with information that can sometimes be beyond our understanding, and so it is good to be well versed in the subject you are offering guidance on. Not to mention, when you market these readings and incorporate your experiences, wisdom and perspective on it, then you will attract more clients. This goes along with speaking your truth – do not offer something you don’t know much about. For me, Tarot is a tool for self-discovery and mastery. It helped me with my shadow work and reconnecting with my higher self, as well as guiding me through situations in which I had first felt powerless and needed a higher perspective to fully understand. When I had first came out, I offered the traditional 1, 3 and 10 Card spreads. Over time I was able to determine what was asked most in terms of guidance, and where I had felt more confident in channeling. With this information, I begin to construct my own spreads revolved around those things. For my live readings, I simply just pull cards and channel what comes up from there. This is my art and my creative truth, and so I read was styles that aid in my expression and passion for this gift. Time & EffortI started reading Tarot professional on December 12, 2012. It was a part-time passion that turned into my full-time career on April 20, 2017. That is nearly 5 years of consistency, persistence, and working my tail off. There are countless readers out there, and more surfacing everyday. What sets us apart is the crowd we draw in. Your truth will be sought by those who need it. BoundariesI still get those clients who purchase the cheapest reading I have listed, and ask multiple questions that I offer guidance in my larger readings, even though I have the details of that reading listed in what it will foretell and offer. I kindly explain what they have purchased, and what I can do for them with that. While I understand that not everyone can afford the reading they need, you could offer payment plans until the service is paid in full. Boundaries are important. Unfortunately, we live in a day and age where not everyone appreciates the time and energy of those who work in the “service” industry and may place impossible demands on you. If you are asked for specific details into something you do not feel comfortable in answering, you have to inform your client and explain what you can and cannot answer. Yes, I still get asked as well, what their future spouse will look like all the way down to the car they will drive and the exact date they will meet. That is fortune telling, which unfortunately is a label which made Tarot and Psychic readers look bad, and all of this a big game to have fun with. Sometimes you will get clients who are blown away with your accuracy in a reading you had sent to them, and they will add additional questions for you to answer – if these are not associated with the reading, and you have to spend time to pull more cards, or channel more information, then do not feel bad in telling them they can purchase another reading from you. And let’s not forget, those skeptics who demand a free service to prove you are gifted. Kindly offer them one of your cheaper services, or simply ignore them. Also, I have had many readers inform me that clients did not pay for services they had delivered. I always require payment before the reading is booked, if they are serious about receiving your guidance, they will understand. OverbookingI have been there many times, with working my full-time corporate job and doing my Tarot on the side, I was 3 months booked in advance for nearly 2 years. Many intuitives found this draining and I’ve read other articles saying it’s not a good thing. To each their own, if it wasn’t for being in such high demand, I wouldn’t have made my dreams coming true in being able to support my family in doing what I love. However, sometimes it can be overwhelming, especially if you book too many readings in a day, so ensure your clients are aware of your lead time and do not book so many back-to-back. You cannot rush or push art, and you have to let your clients know that you can’t just drop everything and pull a card for them. Self-CareNot only does charging a fair price for yourself and your client make a major impact in the Self-Care factor, but so does rest and rejuvenation. If you are overbooking, be sure to schedule time out for yourself, and don’t commit to multiple readings everyday of the week. I ensure that I have time out for myself to cleanse and recharge, as well as still have a life outside of my passions. Balance is important! If you feel drained from being overworked, then the universe will see fit to constantly send things your way to teach you the importance of taking a break, and self-care. Also, it is not good, psychically, to be overworked – you can open yourself up to psychic attack, as well as emotional imbalances if you are not careful. Take a Course, Find a MentorYou do not always have to be certified to read Tarot. While some states do require it, or some sort of licensing, not all do. If you happen to find that you do in your location, then there are many accredited courses available to assist you. Make sure you do your homework, as there has been a few courses which were bogus, so research the instructor and/or website you plan on taking a course with.
I can proudly say that I have had the honor to help intuitives find their gifts and cultivate them into the professional World. I specialize in helping Light Workers find the courage and motivation to make their dreams come true. Out of all my gifts, this is one of my favorites, as seeing my clients grow and become successful, brings me so much joy - as if I was their mother bird, teaching them how to spread their wings and fly. I currently do not offer courses, but I do offer mentorship programs where I intuitively guide clients on how to embrace their gifts and to bring them out into the World. I also offer payment plans on these readings, all you would need to do is contact me and we will work out a plan that suits you. |
